How to Set Up Your Seller Store on Electrical Trader

A complete, professional store profile builds trust with buyers, ensures smooth transactions, and helps you get found in search results.

Who This Is For

New Electrical Trader sellers who have completed signup and are ready to configure their store for business.

Complete this setup:

  • Immediately after creating your seller account
  • Before listing your first product
  • To maximize buyer trust and professionalism

Before You Start

Make sure you have:

Active seller account - You've completed signup and can access your Seller Dashboard

Business information - Company name, address, contact details

Visual assets - Profile photo, shop logo, banner image (see size requirements below)

Store policies - Return policy, warranty terms, shipping policies

Payment information - Bank account details or PayPal account for receiving payments

Invoice details - Business address, VAT/Tax numbers (if applicable)

Complete these sections in order for the most efficient setup process.

Part 1: Configuration Settings

Step 1: Set General Configuration

Navigate to Configuration > General Configuration

Set a Minimum Purchase Amount (Optional)

Require a minimum order value for purchases from your store.

Use this to:

  • Offset transaction fees on small orders
  • Encourage larger purchases
  • Make freight shipping more cost-effective

Recommendation: Consider $100-$500 minimum given the nature of heavy equipment and shipping costs.

Click "Save Changes" at the bottom.

Buyers must meet your minimum order value to complete checkout. They'll see a message if their cart is below the minimum.

Step 2: Configure Shipping Methods

Navigate to Configuration > Shipping Methods

Option 1: Keep Shipping Disabled (Recommended for Heavy Equipment)

  • Status remains "Disabled"
  • You handle all shipping arrangements
  • Buyers typically arrange their own freight pickup
  • Best for transformers, large switchgear, heavy equipment

Option 2: Enable Marketplace Shipping

  • Click the three-dot menu (•••) in the Action column
  • Click "Enable"
  • Status changes to enabled
  • Marketplace calculates shipping based on dimensions and weight

Most electrical equipment sellers keep shipping disabled because:

  • Equipment is typically too large for standard shipping
  • Freight requires custom quotes
  • Buyers often prefer to arrange LTL or their own freight company
  • Local pickup is common for heavy equipment

Configure Default Shipping Package Dimensions

Click the "GLOBAL CONFIGURATION" button

Enter default package dimensions and weight if using marketplace shipping.

Click "SAVE CHANGES"

Step 3: Set Up Invoice Configuration

Navigate to Configuration > Invoice Configuration

Your invoice details appear on customer receipts and order confirmations.

Telephone Number (Optional)

  • Enter your business phone number
  • Appears on invoices for customer contact
  • Format: "+1-555-123-4567" or "(555) 123-4567"

  • Most businesses leave this blank
  • Not required

Click "SAVE" button (or "Cancel" to discard changes)

Step 4: Configure Marketplace Shipping (Optional)

Navigate to Configuration > Marketplace Shipping Configuration

For most electrical equipment sellers:

  • Keep toggle OFF (disabled)
  • Handle shipping arrangements directly with buyers
  • Provide freight quotes after purchase
  • Allow buyer-arranged pickup

Enable when:

  • You ship smaller components regularly
  • You have negotiated freight rates
  • You want to offer calculated shipping to buyers

Tips for a Professional Store Setup

Write Clear, Detailed Descriptions

Do:

  • Specify exactly what equipment you sell
  • Mention your experience and expertise
  • List specific manufacturers you carry
  • Explain your quality control process
  • Include your location and coverage area

Don't:

  • Use generic, vague descriptions
  • Copy competitor descriptions
  • Make claims you can't support
  • Use all caps or excessive formatting
  • Forget to proofread

Create Fair, Clear Policies

Do:

  • Be specific about timeframes (7 days, not "reasonable time")
  • Explain exactly what's covered
  • Set realistic expectations
  • Be fair to both you and buyers
  • Update policies as needed

Don't:

  • Make policies too restrictive (scares buyers)
  • Be too vague (causes disputes)
  • Contradict yourself between sections
  • Use confusing legal language
  • Hide important terms in fine print

Use High-Quality Visual Branding

Profile Photo:

  • Professional headshot or company icon
  • Clear, well-lit, high resolution
  • Square format works best
  • Consistent with your brand

Shop Logo:

  • Simple, recognizable design
  • Readable at small sizes
  • Professional quality
  • Matches your other branding

Store Banner:

  • High-resolution (900×225 px)
  • Relevant to your business
  • Not too busy or cluttered
  • Include your company name or tagline

Set Competitive but Profitable Pricing

Remember the commission:

  • Electrical Trader charges 7% commission on sales
  • Factor this into your pricing
  • Example: $1,000 product = $70 commission, you receive $930

Shipping considerations:

  • If you offer free shipping, factor cost into product price
  • If buyer arranges, make that clear in policies
  • For freight quotes, explain the process

Payment processing fees:

  • PayPal charges ~2.9% + $0.30 per transaction
  • Bank wires may have flat fees
  • Factor into overall pricing strategy

Complete Everything Before Adding Products

Buyers research sellers before purchasing. Incomplete profiles reduce trust. Professional setup increases conversion. Policies prevent misunderstandings. Payment setup ensures you get paid.

Priority order:
